Earned three letters at nearby Helix High School … Played his high school ball with current Aztecs Rashad Scott, Michael Shawcroft and Josh Simmons … The Highlanders combined to go 32-9 over his three fall years (2017-19) and 14-1 in Grossmont League play before the 2020 season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic … Helped the 2019 squad to a CIF Open Division title and the 2017 team to a CIF championship … Was a two-time all-league selection (2018-19) … According to MaxPreps, totaled four interceptions over his last two years and had three defensive touchdowns (two interceptions returns, one fumble return) … Also played basketball for the Highlanders … A three-star recruit by 247sports and ESPN, and a two-star recruit by Rivals … Received a scout grade of 82 by 247sports and 72 by ESPN.
