Bio entering the 2021 season
At San Diego State
- Former Aztec offensive lineman Nik Embernate begins his second season as a recruiting coordinator on the San Diego State football staff.
Previous Coaching Experience
- Prior to his return to The Mesa, Embernate was the offensive line coach at Oberlin (Ohio) College during the 2019 campaign.
- Under Embernate’s guidance, offensive lineman Chandler Laird continued his stellar play for the Yeomen last season, earning All-North Coast Athletic Conference honorable mention for the second year in a row.
- Before relocating to Ohio, Embernate was in charge of quality control for the offense at the University of San Diego in 2018 and worked as a coaching staff intern for the offensive line.
- During his stint with the Toreros, Embernate was heavily involved in game preparation, supplying pass-rush move breakdowns and game plan scouting reports to the offensive line.
Collegiate Playing Experience
- After sitting out as a redshirt during his freshman season, Embernate won four letters at San Diego State from 2009-12, starting all 46 games he appeared in at right guard.
- As a senior, Embernate garnered first-team all-Mountain West accolades after helping the Aztecs capture a share of the conference championship in 2012.
- With Embernate anchoring the offensive line, SDSU rushed for a then school-record 2,869 yards that season, which ranked 20th in the nation.
Professional Playing Experience
- Spent various times on the practice roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2013-15 as well as the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL in 2015.
- Played one season with the LA Kiss in the Arena Football League in 2016.
Education
- Received his bachelor’s degree in social science from SDSU in 2012.

- Embernate is single and resides in San Diego.
