Mike Linehan

Bio entering the 2021 season

At San Diego State

  • Mike Linehan begins his second season as a graduate assistant at San Diego State and will once again assist with the defensive line.
  • In his first year with the Aztecs in 2020, Linehan helped coach a unit that led the Mountain West in total defense (283.5) and rushing defense (98.2), which ranked third and seventh in the nation, respectively. 

Collegiate Playing Experience

  • Linehan played linebacker in the college ranks, signing with Idaho out of high school, where he joined his older brother Matt. 
  • After sitting out as a redshirt in 2015, Linehan saw action in 21 games for the Vandals over the next two seasons, recording 17 tackles. In his first appearance at UI in 2016, he made a career-high six tackles, including five solo stops in the team’s 20-17 season-opening victory over Montana State. 
  • Linehan also saw action in the 2016 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, as the the Vandals defeated Colorado State 60-51 to cap a 9-4 season, marking their best record as an FBS member.
  • Linehan transferred to North Texas for his final two years of eligibility, posting 20 tackles in 22 games combined. He completed his junior season in 2018 by making a tackle in the Mean Green’s loss to No. 23 Utah State in the New Mexico Bowl. 
  • Linehan played nine games as a senior in 2019, logging his first career sack in a narrow setback at Cal in the third week of the season. He also had multiple tackles in victories over Rice (2) and Incarnate Word (3) later in the year.

Education

  • Graduated from North Texas in 2020.

Personal

  • Is the son of Scott Linehan, a long-time college and NFL assistant who was head coach of the St. Louis Rams for parts of three seasons from 2006-08 and is now an offensive analyst at Missouri.
  • His older brother Matt Linehan also worked as a graduate assistant at San Diego State in 2020, helping out at the quarterback position.
