At San Diego State
- Austen Jacobs enters his second season at San Diego State as a graduate assistant, working with the offensive line.
Professional Experience
- Prior to his arrival on The Mesa, Jacobs served as a graduate administrative assistant at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La., where he worked with the tight ends.
- Spent the 2016 season as the tight ends/running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Humboldt State.
- While at HSU, Jacobs was instrumental in the development of running back Ja’Quan Gardner, who garnered Division II All-America accolades.
- In addition, Jacobs was responsible for recruiting the Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose areas.
- Began his professional career as an offensive quality control assistant for two seasons at Colorado State in 2014-15, where he was mentored by head coaches Jim McElwain and
Education
- Received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M in 2014.
- Is working toward his master’s degree in homeland security from SDSU.
Personal
- Is the grandson of Dave Lay, a former Aztec assistant coach who served three stints on The Mesa from 1978-90, 1989-91 and 1997-2001.
