Jerome Haywood

At San Diego State

  • San Diego State graduate Jerome Haywood enters his second year on the Aztec staff.
  • He serves as the assistant on-campus recruiting coordinator and quality control for the defense. 

Professional Playing Experience

  • Played defensive tackle in the Canadian Football League for four teams over an eight-year span from 2002-09.
  • Signed with the Ottawa Renegades out of college, starting 64 of 72 games between 2002 and 2005. Was twice named CFL Lineman of the Week during his stay in the Canadian capital.
  • Saw action in 11 games for the Montreal Alouettes in 2006, helping the squad capture the Eastern Conference title.
  • Started 32 of 36 games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007 and 2008. Team won Eastern Conference crown in his first season in Manitoba. 
  • Joined the Edmonton Eskimos for a seven-game stint in 2009 to finish out his playing career.

Collegiate Playing Experience

  • Played four years on the defensive line at San Diego State from 1998-2001.
  • Garnered second-team all-Mountain West accolades during his final three seasons on The Mesa.
  • Totaled 148 tackles during his Aztec career, including 71 solo stops, to go with 26 tackles for loss, 3.5 quarterback sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
  • Was named WAC Pacific Division Freshman of the Year in  1998, starting all 12 games at left defensive tackle. 

Education

  • Graduated from San Diego State in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Personal

  • Haywood lives in San Diego with his wife, Talia, and has four children.
