At San Diego State
- Jashon Sykes begins his seventh season at San Diego State as the team's director of football operations and his fifth as the assistant athletic director for football operations, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the football program including scheduling, budgeting, and team travel.
- Sykes works closely with members of the campus community including the faculty, housing & dining, and academic advising. Other duties include game day management, community outreach, the coordination and planning of team events related to the football program, the annual team awards banquet and special projects.
- Sykes also serves as the football team's NFL liaison, managing and coordinating pro day, and assisting the potential NFL Aztecs with transitioning from college to the NFL.
- In addition, Sykes has been an active member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) since 2006. He currently serves as vice president of the AFCA National Committee for Directors of Football Operations.
Previous Experience
- Before his arrival on The Mesa, Sykes spent seven years as an administrator at his alma mater, Colorado, including the last two as the Buffaloes' director of football operations in 2011-12. Also served as director of the team's elite high school summer camp.
- Returned to the Boulder campus in 2006 following a four-year pro playing career, working as an administrative assistant in recruiting and operations for one season before taking on the role of on-campus recruiting director in 2007-08.
- Spent two summers with the Denver Broncos as a training camp assistant coach. Worked with the linebackers as an intern in 2007, before assuming a dual role in 2008 with the operations department while assisting the defensive line.
Playing Experience
- Starred at linebacker for Colorado, finishing 10th on the school's all-time list with 330 tackles. Also amassed 33 tackles for a loss and 12.5 quarterback sacks during his collegiate career.
- Played in all 12 games as a true freshman in 1998, starting four of the last five games of the year, including the Buffaloes' victory over Oregon in the Aloha Bowl. Received first-team freshman All- America honors from The Sporting News after making 52 tackles, including 14 in the regular-season finale against Nebraska.
- Garnered second-team All-America accolades from Football News and was a first-team all-Big 12 selection by the Associated Press following his sophomore campaign in 1999. Finished second in the conference with 134 tackles (82 solo), becoming just the fifth Colorado sophomore to lead the team in that statistic since 1965. Also topped the nation with a school-record seven forced fumbles.
- Was named defensive MVP of the Insight.com Bowl that season after recording nine tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown in the Buffaloes' romp over Boston College.
- Earned honorable mention all-Big 12 recognition as a junior in 2000, after totaling 111 tackles (78 solo), 3.5 sacks, two pass deflections and one interception.
- Appeared on preseason watch lists for both the Butkus and Lombardi Awards prior to his senior campaign in 2001. Started the first four games that year before suffering a herniated disc. Opted to declare for the NFL Draft in lieu of pursuing a medical redshirt.
- Played two seasons for the Denver Broncos in 2003 and 2004 after landing on the team's practice squad in 2002. Made 11 starts during the 2003 season, helping the Broncos post the NFL's fourthranked defense by collecting 65 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a block punt. Ended his professional playing career with the Washington Redskins.
- Prepped at Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., landing on multiple All-America lists. Additionally earned a spot on the Long Beach Press-Telegram's prestigious Best-in-the-West Team, receiving a maximum 10 votes. Also won three varsity letters in track as a sprinter and one in basketball.

- Received his bachelor's degree in ethic studies from Colorado in 2002.

- He and his wife, Qiana, have two daughters, Joslyn and Autumn, and a son, Semion.
