Craig Smith begins his second year at San Diego State as the team’s football operations specialist.

In his role, Smith assists with the day-to-day operations of the Aztec football program, including scheduling, facilities, scholarships and academics. In addition, he helps manage the squad’s student managers while lending support to team travel.
     
A native of Saline, Michigan, Smith also coordinates the program’s social media efforts and develops strategies to improve the student-athlete experience. 

Prior to his arrival on The Mesa, Smith spent three seasons as director of football operations at Indiana State from 2017-19, overseeing team travel while managing all associated budgetary categories. He was also heavily involved with fundraising initiatives for stadium and office renovations and worked as a liaison between the Sycamore football program and the academic services, compliance, sports medicine, equipment and strength and conditioning offices.

Before moving to the Hoosier State, Smith served a one-year stint as football operations assistant at Florida Tech, offering key contributions in the areas of budgeting, fundraising and team travel. Additionally, he managed the program’s social media accounts and graphic design efforts.  

Smith received his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Siena Heights University in 2016. As an undergraduate on the Adrian, Michigan campus, he worked for three years as a student football coach, assisting with the inside linebacker position to go with game plan development and practice schedule implementation.
