2023 Mountain West All-Academic Selection

2023 SEASON (As a Sophomore):
Emerged as the Aztecs’ No. 2 starter for much of the year, logging a 3-5 record with a 5.69 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 61.2 innings of work… Finished second among Mountain West leaders in fewest hits allowed (62) while tying for fifth in strikeouts (72)… Also ranked eighth in the conference in opposing team batting average (.265)… Matched his collegiate best with nine strikeouts in back-to-back starts vs. Air Force and at New Mexico… Allowed just one earned run on three hits and three walks in 6.0 innings against the Falcons, collecting his first victory of the year in the Aztecs’ 13-1 romp (3-25-23)… Tossed a career-long 6.1 innings in that latter games vs. the Lobos, yielding just one run on five hits and three walks but did not factor in the decision, as the Scarlet and Black rallied for a 3-1 win (4-1-23)… Also fanned eight hitters in consecutive six-inning appearances vs. Nevada and UNLV, securing wins in both games… Ceded three runs on three hits and a pair of walks against the Wolf Pack (4-22-23) before giving up two runs on four hits and two walks vs. the Rebels (4-29-23)… Recorded six strikeouts and allowed one unearned run in 5.1 innings at home against Air Force but did not figure in the decision after the Aztecs registered a 5-4 comeback win (5-13-23)… Earned a spot on the Mountain West all-academic team following the season.

2022 SEASON (As a Freshman): Posted a 2-1 record with a 5.11 ERA in 15 games … Ranked sixth on the squad with 39 strikeouts in 44.0 innings … Fanned two or more batters in eight appearances … Made his collegiate debut in the Aztecs’ 4-3 triumph over Houston at the season-opening MLB4 Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he tossed one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and one walk after striking out one batter (2-18-22) … Started seven consecutive games from April 5-May 15, including the final six on Sundays … Earned his first collegiate victory at Long Beach State, where he posted a season-high seven strikeouts in 5.0 scoreless innings, yielding three hits and a pair of walks (4-5-22) … Pitched a season-long 6 1/3 innings vs. San José State (4-10-22) … Collected his second win of the year in SDSU’s 8-5 triumph at Fresno State, where he struck out four in a five-plus inning stint (5-1-22) … Matched his season best with seven strikeouts vs. Air Force but did not earn a decision after tossing 5 2/3 innings (5-8-22) … Came out of the bullpen for his final appearance of the season, striking out one batter in 2/3 innings in the Aztecs’ 6-3 victory at regular-season champion UNLV (5-20-22).

PRIOR TO COLLEGE: Graduated in 2021 from Orange Lutheran High School, where he earned all-CIF Division I honors as a senior after helping the Lancers reach the semifinals of both the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs and the CIF Division I regional championships … Posted an 8-0 record with a 1.39 ERA with 85 strikeouts in 72.0 innings during his final prep campaign … Also collected two saves that season and limited the opposition to a .159 batting average … Garnered all-Trinity League accolades and competed in the Orange County All-Star Game … Listed among the top 500 prospects nationally for the class of 2021 by Perfect Game and was ranked No. 35 for outfielders in California and No. 215 in the state overall … Received preseason All-America honorable mention for the California Region by Perfect Game prior to the 2021 season … Landed on the all-tournament team at the 2020 PG 17U West World Series in Surprise, Arizona, as a member of the Saddleback Cowboys club program … Also excelled in the classroom, landing on his high school’s honor roll … Chose the Aztecs over the likes of Arizona, Kansas State, UCLA, Washington State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount, Grand Canyon and San Diego.
