Brandon Decker

Former Aztec player Brandon Decker returns to San Diego State this season in his first year as the Head of Player Personnel. Decker played and graduated as an Aztec, spending the 2007-2010 seasons under Coach Tony Gwynn and Mark Martinez.

During his playing days at SDSU, Decker was part of the 2009 team that advanced to an NCAA Regional for the first time in 18 years. Decker adds a great deal of talent and skills to the Aztecs coaching staff on defense as he played all outfield and infield positions both collegiately and professionally, and offensively brings an extensive history of hitting knowledge from both playing and coaching.

Decker's playing career consisted of two years of pro ball in the United League and the Frontier League along with five years at the Division I level, one as a member of the Long Beach State Dirtbags and four as a San Diego State Aztec under Hall of Fame player Tony Gwynn.

While at San Diego State Decker had a few meaningful streaks. In 2008, he went 22 consecutive games without committing an error between the infield and outfield. In 2009 reached the school record books with a 20 game hitting streak when he went 36-for-87 with a .417 average. He concluded that season with a hit in 24 of the team's last 27 games and hitting .382 in conference play with 22 runs scored in 21 games.

In addition to his coaching experience at the collegiate level, Decker served as assistant baseball coach and head strength and conditioning coach at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, Calif., from 2010-14. During the 2014 season, Granite Hills was ranked first in the state and third nationally, winning the CIF championship and finishing with a record of 26-7 overall and 13-2 in league play.

Decker was also an assistant coach for the Kansas City Royals Scout team in 2013 and was the head coach for Francis Parker Junior High School's league championship team that went 10-0 in 2012.

In 2016, Decker was the Gwynn Baseball Travel Ball co-founder and Senior Coordinator with both Anthony Gwynn Jr and Chris Gwynn. He had previously served as the Camp Director and Assistant Manager of Frozen Ropes baseball facility, where he was Head Coach of the Frozen Ropes Aztecs Travel ball and the San Diego Longhorns Travel ball.

The 30-year-old Decker graduate from San Diego State in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in political science.
