Competed at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas two years ... Coached there by Tim Chambers ... Earned first-team all-region honors in 2008 with a record of 8-3, three saves and a 1.13 earned run average ... Struck out 88 and walked 33 in 79.1 innings ... Ten of his 19 appearances came in a starting role and he recorded four complete games ... During his freshman season, was named a second-team junior college All-American and first-team all-region as well as the region pitcher of the year ... Had a record of 8-2 with five saves and a 0.80 ERA ... Had 56 strikeouts and 19 walks in 45 innings with opponents hitting just .140 against him ... Made one start and 19 relief appearances.

Played three seasons of varsity baseball at Centennial High School in Las Vegas where he was coached by Charlie Cerrone ... Team won Sunset-Northwest League titles each of his three years on the squad, finishing as high as second in the state his junior season ...
