Aztecs Win MWC Scholar-Athlete Awards

SAN DIEGO - A total of 24 San Diego State student-athletes have won scholar-athlete awards for the 2003-2004 academic year, the Mountain West Conference announced. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters at SDSU while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 or better, and have competed in at least one varsity contest in their respective sport.

Sarah McKillip (Auburn, Calif./Placer HS) and Ashley Paiko (Davis, Calif./Davis Senior HS), who were named National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, were two of seven rowers to win the MWC scholar-athlete award.

Other San Diego State student-athletes honored were MWC men's tennis freshman of the year Markus Dickhardt (Marburg, Germany/Adolf-Reichwein-Schule), all-conference tennis player Felix Hardt (Allensbach, Germany/Gesch Wister Scholl Gymnasium), baseball academic All-American Rielly Embrey (Poway, Calif./Poway), 2003 academic All-District VIII women's soccer player Annette Shinn (Littleton, Colo./Columbine HS), and all-conference women's doubles team selection Indra Erichsen (Husum, Germany/Stadt Husum).
