'The Drive' Hits 700,000 After Third Report Night May 28, 2003 SAN DIEGO - Volunteers from around San Diego gathered at the Aztec Athletic Center on Thursday, May 22nd, for Report Night III of "The Drive 2003". At the third checkpoint of the 10-week campaign, volunteers have securedpledges totaling $711,636 toward their goal of $1.25 million forstudent-athlete scholarships at San Diego State University. Teams fromaround San Diego and Orange Counties are in competition for this year'sdrive, building on last year's record and all-time high of $1.1 million. In the team competition, Morrison's Monty Clubbers from Scripps Ranch/Poway, led by Captain Bert Morrison, continue their quest for their third consecutive team title with $96,175, 86.3 percent of the 2002 total. Monty's Family Jewels out of La Mesa, led by Bob McCray, are gaining ground quickly in second at $88,708, or 76.8 percent of 2002, while The Tierrasanta Titans, led by Martin Imhof, moved into third at $94,606, or 66.9 percent of 2002. Team champions are decided by the greatest overall percentage increase over their 2002 final tally. In the individual race, Ben Bagnas from Morrison's Monty Clubbers kept histhree-year streak in the top spot alive with $54,200. Bobbie Harkey of theTierrasanta Titans jumped into second at $39,479, Todd Nielsen from theAztechnicians in East County climbed a notch into third at $36,829, BobMcCray of Monty's Jewels out of La Mesa dropped to fourth at $33,195, andthe husband and wife duo of Jim and Deborah Marshall from Monty's Beach Bum Border Patrol held the fifth spot at $27,961.
