SAN DIEGO - San Diego State University President Stephen L. Weber has promoted Director of Athletics Rick Bay to Executive Director of Athletics and Special Assistant to the President. The promotion includes a five-year contract extension.

"Everyone who has worked with Rick Bay recognizes that he is a man of integrity whose hard work and experience serve SDSU very well. I am pleased that he has agreed to continue his leadership of Aztec athletics for another five years," said Weber.

Bay recently completed his fifth year at SDSU. He is the first athletic director in the history of the University to sit on the president's cabinet as an integral part of the administrative management team. He recently chaired the search for SDSU's new Vice President of student Affairs.

"I'm appreciative of the confidence President Weber is showing in me," Bay said. "We will continue to work hard to get Aztec athletics to the highest competitive level."

Prior to SDSU, Bay served as Director of Athletics at Oregon, Ohio State and Minnesota. He has also been chief operation officer of two major-league baseball teams: the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians.
