SAN DIEGO - San Diego State University's Aztec Athletic Foundation will kickoff its annual fund drive, The Drive 2004 - Rising to a New Level, on April 7 with a Kickoff Rally in the Aztec Hall of Fame (presented by the Wise Foundation). The annual campaign is held every spring to raise funds for student-athlete scholarships at San Diego State University.

Teams from around San Diego County are excited to be working on a brand new campaign under new Athletic Director Mike Bohn, who personally coined the motto for this year's drive..."Rising to a New Level". The AAF has set an ambitious goal of $1.5 million for the 10-week campaign, building on last year's record and all-time high of $1.26 million.

"We are at a critical juncture in our athletic history," said Bob Moosbrugger, SDSU assistant athletic director who oversees the AAF. "The state of the California economy raises the level of our challenge. However, as an athletics department, we have been moving steadily forward. In the past, we have spent time talking about building for future successes. We now feel the future has arrived."

The AAF is looking for volunteers from across the county to assist in contacting residents and alumni to reach the goal. For their efforts, volunteers will receive great prizes, including the opportunity to earn football and basketball season tickets, in addition to the personal reward that comes with helping out young athletes in the community.

Without question, the funds raised during The Drive 2004 help offset the biggest challenge facing Aztec Athletics, the annual scholarship commitment that is nearing $4 million. There has never been a greater need for assistance from volunteers. The fund drive allows SDSU student-athletes the opportunity to continue building the nationally acclaimed athletic program San Diego wants and deserves.
