AUGUSTA, Ga. -- San Diego State junior Tashi Dorje (Brentwood, Calif.) has been named to the 2026 Ray Guy Award Midseason Watch List, which was announced Thursday by the Augusta Sports Council. The Ray Guy Award, which was won in 2021 by former Aztec Matt Araiza, honors the nation’s top FBS punter.
On the season, Dorje has punted 40 times for 1,843 yards and a 46.1 average. Thirteen (13) of his 40 punts have gone for at least 50 yards with a long of 77 yards, while 10 have landed inside the 20-yard line. His 46.08 average ranks sixth in SDSU single-season history.
Dorje leads the Pac-12 with a 46.08 punt average and is tied for second in total punts (40, T-14th in FBS), fourth in punts inside the 20-yard line (10) and fifth in net punt average (39.65). His 77-yard punt at UCLA on Sept. 12 is the second longest in FBS play this season and tied for the ninth longest in San Diego State history.
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia, native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
The Ray Guy Award Committee will determine the 10 semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award on Nov. 13 with the three finalists being selected by a national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners. After the finalists are announced, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner of the Ray Guy Award will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 11.
Dorje and the Aztecs (4-5, 3-2 Pac-12) are off this week before playing host to Utah State on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. PT at Snapdragon Stadium in SDSU’s final home game of the season.
