SAN DIEGO — San Diego State’s Bailey Barnhard has been selected as a Kay Yow Servant Leader for the 2026-27 season. The Kay Yow Servant Leader Award recognizes student-athletes who exemplify leadership, selflessness and service while embodying the values of Hall of Fame basketball coach Kay Yow.
Servant Leaders are distinguished by a special patch worn on their game jerseys. The patch symbolizes the defining qualities of Yow's character — uplifting others, demonstrating strength and drawing strength from those around her.
“Bailey exemplifies what it means to be a servant lead,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said. “We have had seven newcomers in each of the last two years, and she has been a welcoming presence for our new players. She is always available, invites teammates over to her house and it our team’s connector.”
Recently voted as one of SDSU’s team captains, Barnhard was named to the Pac-12 Preseason Impact List. She broke out last season, especially down the stretch, shooting 48% from the field and 49% (14-for-29) from three in conference play last year.
Honoring the Legacy of Kay Yow
Yow battled breast cancer for 22 years, inspiring countless individuals through her compassion, passion and integrity. She was admired for her character, courage and leadership both on and off the court.
