SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State volleyball team earned two conference weekly honors on Tuesday, as Layla Austin was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Kendall Mairs received the league’s Setter of the Week recognition. The announcement was made by the Pac-12 office in San Ramon, California.

With their awards, the Aztecs have garnered eight conference weekly accolades this season, netting multiple winners on three occasions. In addition, Mairs collected Setter of the Week plaudits for the fifth time this year, while Austin became a first-time honoree.

A former prep All-American from Southlake, Texas, Austin led the Pac-12 with 35 points last week and tied for the top spot with 5.00 points per set, helping the Scarlet and Black split two home matches against Boise State and Washington State. The SDSU freshman also tied for second in the conference with five service aces and added one setting assist.

In two matches, Austin launched 29 kills and averaged 4.14 kills per set, the latter of which tied for the Pac-12 lead among players who competed in more than five sets, while her 29 kills were tied for second for the week.

In the Aztecs’ 3-1 triumph over Washington State on Oct. 21, Austin led all players with a career-high 21 kills, which ranks third in the conference for a four-set match this season. She hit .378 in that match, committing just four errors in 45 attempts to record a .300 efficiency or higher for the ninth time this season. Not to be outdone, the SDSU outside hitter also served up a collegiate-best four aces against the Cougars, helping the Scarlet and Black complete the season sweep.

With her performance, Austin became the first Aztec to surpass the 20-kill plateau since Taylor Underwood notched 22 put-aways at Grand Canyon on Nov. 6, 2025.

Although not a criterion for the award, Austin displayed her versatility with 21 digs (3.00/set) for the week, which ranked third on the team. Earlier, she finished with eight kills, 13 digs, two block assists and one service against Boise State.

For the season, Austin is slotted second on the team with 3.34 kills per set, which ranks sixth in the Pac-12. She also occupies the second spot on the team with 20 service aces and the third position with 175 digs (2.27/set).

Meanwhile, Mairs led the Pac-12 with 80 assists and 11.43 assists per set for the week while ranking fourth in the conference in digs (3.71/set) and tying for sixth in service aces (3). In addition, the Camas, Washington, native recorded two double-doubles, bringing her season total to 13 in that category. She also flashed her all-round game with three kills and two block assists.

With her performances, Mairs contributed to an SDSU defense that led the conference with 17.00 digs per set for the week and paced the Aztecs, who ranked second in the league with 13.29 assists.

Against Washington State, Mairs posted her second-highest career total with 51 assists, completing a double-double with 11 digs while tying her season best with three service aces. She also assisted on one block and blasted a kill.

Mairs’ 51 assists against the Cougars represent the most in the Pac-12 for a four-set match during conference play and rank second for all matches this season.

Mairs also completed an earlier double-double with a match-high 29 assists against Boise State while collecting 15 digs, which tied for second among all players in that contest and equaled her third-best total of the year.

For the season, Mairs leads the Pac-12 with 11.00 assists per set during conference play and ranks second in that category (9.97/set) for all matches. She is also slotted eighth overall in service aces (0.30/set) and ninth in digs (2.96/set).

San Diego State wraps up its homestand on Thursday, Nov. 5, when it plays host to Fresno State, starting at 6 p.m. PT.
