SAN DIEGO – San Diego State volleyball player Kendall Mairs (Camas, Wash./Camas HS) was named Pac-12 Setter of the Week for her outstanding effort in a pair of road victories at Boise State (Oct. 1) and Washington State (Oct. 3). The announcement was made Tuesday by the league office in San Ramon, California.

With her award, Mairs earned her second career conference weekly honor after receiving the same distinction on Sept. 15.

In two matches, Mairs led the Pac-12 with an average of 11.00 assists per set and ranked eighth with 3.29 per set, compiling  team highs of 77 assists and 23 digs overall while adding seven kills, two block assists and one service ace.

Thanks in part to Mairs’ setting, the Aztecs topped the conference last weekend with 14.43 kills and 13.29 assists per set, while ranking second in the league with a .254 team hitting percentage. In addition, her dig total helped the Scarlet and Black  limit their two opponents to a combined .125 hitting percentage, which was slotted second in the Pac-12.

Not to be outdone, Mairs completed two double-doubles for the week, raising her total to a team-leading 10 for the season and 21 for her career.

Against Boise State, Mairs set a career high with 50 assists, which ranks second for a four-set match in the conference this season.  In addition, the SDSU sophomore collected 10 digs and blasted five kills in that contest, helping the Aztecs defeat the Broncos in Boise for the second year in a row.

Two days later, Mairs continued her stellar play with match highs of 27 assists and 13 digs at Washington State, propel the Aztecs to their fifth sweep of the season. Against the Cougars, she came up with a whopping nine digs in the third set alone, helping to limit WSU to a .068 hitting percentage, which marked a season-low for an SDSU opponent.

For the season, Mairs finds herself among the Pac-12 leaders in three categories, ranking third in assists (9.37/set), eighth in digs (3.04/set) and ninth in service aces (0.33/set). She also surpassed the 1,000-assist plateau for her career with her effort at Boise State and has dished out 1,060 helpers in a Scarlet and Black uniform.

Mairs and the Aztecs will play seven of their next eight matches at home, starting Thursday, Oct. 8, when they battle Oregon State in the Pac-12 home opener, starting at 6 p.m. PT. SDSU will then lock horns with Gonzaga on Saturday, Oct. 10, starting at noon.
