NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-6-4) lost at CSUN (4-4-2) 3-0 Saturday evening in non-conference play.
The Aztecs allowed one goal in the first half and then two in the second.
Taking a break from Pac-12 play, the Aztecs rested many of their key starters. Just one Aztec was in the starting lineup who also who started Wednesday's game at No. 21 Oregon State
"We obviously didn't get the result we wanted tonight," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. "But the foundation of our program is development and nights like tonight will pay dividends for us in the future. It's a results driven business, but for me, the results come from your commitment to developing people and players."
The Matadors struck early, scoring in the fifth minute when Enrique Pineda scored from nearly midfield after catching the Aztec goalkeeper playing off the backline.
CSUN added to their lead in the 62nd minute when Kayvon Monfared finished an assist from Miles Johnson after he stole the ball in the Aztec’ final third.
The Matadors put the game out of reach in the 73rd minute on Pineda’s second goal. This time he headed in a Dave-Ryan Tankou cross.
Trevor Wilson made his second start in goal for SDSU and allowed two goals. Andrew Klott played the last 17 minutes and allowed one goal.
The Aztecs had six shots (three on goal) with six different players attempting one.

CSUN only had four shots on goal, just one more than the Aztecs, but three of them found the back of the net.
THE NOTE
Freshmen Griffin Brandon and Luke Strassburg earned their first career starts and played the full 90 minutes.
