MALIBU, Calif.– Jan Kobierski and Piotr Siekanowicz punched their ticket to the NCAA Doubles Championships after capturing the ITA Southwest Regional doubles title on Tuesday morning. The Aztecs took down the No. 1 seed, Pepperdine’s Aleksa Pisaric and Lasse Poertner, to win San Diego State’s first regional championship since 2001.

The 14th-seeded Aztecs jumped out to a one-set advantage after claiming a 6-4 win over Pisaric and Poertner, who enter the 2026-27 campaign as the No. 19 doubles team in the nation. Kobierski and Siekanowicz were then tripped up 6-1 by the Waves in the second set. The decision came down to a 10-point tiebreaker, which the Aztecs won by a score of 10-4.

This is the first regional doubles championship for San Diego State men’s tennis since Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo won in 2001. Maiberger swept the region that year, clinching the singles title as well.

“Great work from Jan [Kobierski] and Piotr [Siekanowicz] earning quality wins against the number one and two seeds in the final rounds to bring home the championship in one of the toughest regions in the country,” said Head Coach Gene Carswell.

This will be the 11th NCAA appearance by a San Diego State doubles team in program history, and the first since Markus Dickhardt and Christian Groh qualified in 2007.

The Aztecs will head to Athens, Ga., where competition will begin on Nov. 17.
