MALIBU, Calif.– Jan Kobierski and Piotr Siekanowicz advanced in the doubles main draw at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships after capturing two wins on Sunday. The Aztecs earned four wins over the weekend to claim their spot in Monday’s semifinals, where they will look to advance to the championship match and punch their ticket to the NCAA Doubles Championships in November.
Kobierski and Siekanowicz, the 14 seed, faced off against Pepperdine’s Photos Photiades and Hugh Winter in the round of 16, taking down the eighth-seeded Waves by a score of 8-5.
Aleksi Lofman and William Kleege also appeared in the doubles round of 16, but fell 8-3 to top-seeded Aleksa Pisaric and Lasse Poertner out of Pepperdine.
In the quarterfinals, Kobierski and Siekanowicz took on second-seeded Adrien Berrut and Lambert Ruland out of the University of San Diego, battling to an 8-6 victory over the Torreros.
The Aztecs will face Cal Poly’s Jovan Lubbe and Leo Matthysen in the semifinals at 10 a.m. on Monday. The winner will advance to the championship match, where an automatic bid to the NCAA Doubles Championships will be on the line.
