San Diego State Races at Bill Dellinger Invitational

The Aztecs were led by freshman Skylar Watts’ top 30 individual finish while taking ninth as a team.

SPRINGFIELD, ORE. – San Diego State Cross Country competed at the Bill Dellinger Invitational for the fourth consecutive year at the Pine Ridge Golf Club. Eight Aztecs saw action including three true freshmen and three sophomores. Skylar Watts once again paved the way for the Aztecs serving as the team’s top finisher, breaking into the top 30 with a 21:30.2 final time.  Isabella Frisone rallied late with a strong final kilometer, moving up 12 places over the final stretch of the race to secure a 38th place finish with a time of 21:39.1. Sophomore Elliana Lomeli also had a strong kick to the finish moving up nine spots over the final two kilometers of the race. She finished with a final time of 21:45.7.

Alexis Wolfinger, Karina Janik, Emilia Greenway and Olivia Campos rounded out the Aztecs top seven while freshman Rickelle Bush also raced. In just her second cross country race and first ever official six-kilometer race, Karina Janik finished with a time of 22:23.9. Her experience in the middle-distance events in track paid dividends as she was able to pick up her pace across the final kilometers and catch six opposing runners.

The Aztecs will return to action next weekend at the Highlander Invitational hosted by UC Riverside. It will be the final regular season meet of the year before the team turns their attention to the programs first ever Pac-12 Championship in Boise, Idaho.
