SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State athletic department, San Diego Sports 760 and JMI Sports announced today that SDSU will air all six of its regular-season home football games on Spanish radio. The broadcasts will air on GoAztecs.com and the official SDSU athletics app.
It is the third straight year that the Aztecs will have games air on Spanish radio by a San Diego State broadcaster. In 2024, SDSU’s home game against Hawai’i aired in Spanish, which was believed to be the first time. The Aztecs then had their games on Spanish radio for the majority of the 2025 season before today’s announcement of for all six home games at Snapdragon Stadium.
Tony Alvarez, a reporter for Televisa Tijuana and Las Noticias, will handle the play-by-play duties once again. Alvarez has experience with the former San Diego Chargers of the NFL and the Tijuana Xolos of the Liga MX as a color commentator and analyst in Spanish and English, along with play-by-play in Spanish for the Tijuana Zonkeys basketball team of the Cibacopa and the Tijuana Truenos baseball team. He has also served as a color commentator and lead play-by-play announcer for college football games for Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Tijuana.
Pedro Gutiérrez will join Alvarez in the booth once again after spending 13 seasons as a Spanish Broadcaster for the San Diego Padres. Gutiérrez hosts the Padres’ Spanish pregame and postgame show for the entire 162 game schedule, as well as handles fill-in play-by-play duties on both Spanish radio (XEMO) and Spanish television broadcasts, while also serving as co-interpreter for the team's Spanish speaking players. During his career, Gutiérrez has spent eight seasons in the Mexican Winter League, while doing play-by-play for Megacable, the largest cable network provider in the country. He worked for the Aguilas de Mexicali for five seasons, the Charros de Jalisco for two seasons and the Yaquis de Obregón for their SKY Sports TV broadcasts.
Saturday’s game is the opener for San Diego State, its first season in the Pac-12. The Aztecs and Portland State (0-1) kick off at 6:30 p.m. PT.
Season tickets, single-game tickets and family four-packs are currently on sale for the San Diego State football team’s 2026 campaign, its first in the Pac-12 Conference.
SDSU’s home slate includes non-conference home games on Sept. 5 vs. Portland State (6:30 p.m. PT) and Sept. 19 against James Madison (7 p.m. PT), and Pac-12 home matchups with Texas State (Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Fresno State (Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. PT), Washington State (Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. PT) and Utah State (Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. PT). The Pac-12 Championship will take place on Friday, Dec. 4 with the host being the team with the best conference record.
Season tickets remain the best value for Aztec football at Snapdragon Stadium. Season ticket pricing has been lowered across the board to make tickets more affordable and accessible for the loyal fans and community. Fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets through San Diego State, which start as low as $175 ($150 plus $25 Aztec Club Membership), only $29.17 per game. This shift supports SDSU’s focus on strengthening local connections and building a gameday atmosphere worthy of the program’s next chapter.

After going 3-9 in the first season under Sean Lewis in 2024, SDSU improved to 9-4 in 2025, including a perfect 6-0 record at home. It was San Diego State’s first undefeated home campaign since 1996 and just the sixth in its Division I history. The Aztecs outscored the opposition, 187-41, at Snapdragon Stadium, including shutouts over Stony Brook (42-0) and California (34-0).
