SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State has announced its gameday promotions for Saturday’s football season opener against the visiting Vikings from Portland State. The game is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on USA Sports.

In honor of the upcoming Labor Day holiday, Saturday’s game will serve as First Responders Appreciation Day in which first responders will be offered discounted tickets to go along with a moment of recognition during the game. Along with honoring San Diego’s first responders, Saturday will serve as a night of recognition for the United States Air Force.

The River Block Party, presented by Snapdragon, will open at 1:30 p.m. featuring both live music and a DJ. One of the highlights will be a Kids Zone with a balloon artist, inflatables and more! Members of the Aztec Kids Club will also be eligible for discounted tickets and free T-shirts to be claimed at the Kids Zone! Fans will also enjoy food and beverage options. The first 1,000 San Diego State Students will also have the opportunity to grab a free Aztec FAST T-shirt while supplies last to show off their support for the Aztecs during the 2026 season!

The Warrior Walk will begin at 4:15 p.m., offering fans the perfect opportunity to cheer on the team as they exit the buses and walk into Snapdragon Stadium where they will gear up to take on the Vikings! Join our cheerleaders, band members and more to help ring in a new season of Aztec Football!

The Aztec’s first Honor Warrior of the year is Luq Barcoo. Barcoo was a two-year letter winner at San Diego State for 2018-19, helping the Aztecs to a pair of bowl appearances. Barcoo had a breakout senior campaign in 2019 when he totaled nine interceptions, the most in SDSU’s Division I history and tied for the most in the country. He also led the nation with 1.92 passes defended per game. For his efforts, Barcoo was second-team Walter Camp All-American, a third-team AP All-American and a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award for the top defensive back in college football. The first-team all-Mountain West pick’s most notable performance came against Colorado State when he had three interceptions in consecutive plays, the first time that has happened in college football since at least 2012.
