SAN DIEGO – San Diego State inaugural Pac-12 men’s basketball schedule was released on Wednesday featuring a true round robin 16-game slate.
In their first season competing in the Pac-12, the Aztecs continue their rivalry with Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State, while adding Gonzaga, Oregon State, Texas State, and Washington State as new conference foes.
The schedule features a run of six straight games to open conference play, then a bye, four games, a second bye and then six games to round out the regular season. Not including the bye dates, SDSU has back-to-back home games on three occasions and three instances of back-to-back road contests.
The game dates are confirmed; however, network assignments and game times are still being finalized.
The Aztecs’ conference slate opens on Wednesday, January 6, at Oregon State’s Gill Coliseum. San Diego State and the Beavers have played one time, on December 17, 1971, in Corvallis, a total of 20,109 days at tip. The Beavers won that game 96-90.
The first home contest, on Saturday, January 9, will be against a familiar foe, Fresno State. The Aztecs and Bulldogs have met 131 times, the most frequent opponent for SDSU in its basketball history. San Diego State leads the series 75-56 and is 40-20 in San Diego, which includes an 11-5 mark at Viejas Arena. Since their first meeting at Steve Fisher Court, on January 31, 1998, the Aztecs have outscored Fresno State overall by an average of 8.6 points at home, but that number ticks up to 15.0 points in its 11 home wins. Fresno State has not left San Diego with a victory in its last five trips, including last season’s 71-52 decision.
SDSU remains in America’s Finest City for its next game, on Thursday, January 14, against Colorado State. Behind only Fresno State and tied with New Mexico as San Diego State’s second most frequent foe, the Rams and Aztecs have faced off 101 times with SDSU holding a 55-46 lead in the series. In San Diego, the Scarlet and Black are 33-14 against CSU, 23-4 at Viejas Arena and 23-3 in the Fisher/Dutcher era. SDSU has not lost in its last six home meetings against the Rams, taking each contest by double digits, including last season’s 73-50 win in which Miles Byrd and Reese Dixon-Waters each scored in double figures.
For their fourth game, the Aztecs return to the Pacific Northwest to play Washington State in Pullman, Wash., on Sunday, January 17. San Diego State and the Cougars played the 1975-76 season opener at Beasley Coliseum, on November 28, 1975, which resulted in an 86-81 win for WSU. On December 21, 2017, at Key Arena in Seattle and in what is listed as a home game for Washington State, SDSU fell 64-54. San Diego State and WSU have played six times with the Cougars emerging on the winning end of the result on each occasion, but just one of those contests has come since the 2006-07 campaign, a November 26, 2017, game at the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, California.
On Wednesday, January 20, SDSU and Texas State, the Scarlet and Black’s fifth opponent, meet for the fourth time overall, but will share a court for the first time since the 1997-98 season. The Scarlet and Black lead the series 2-1, with the Aztecs winning the initial meeting, on a neutral floor at the UAB Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, 67-53. The teams won each of the following two games on their respective home floors. The previous meeting in San Diego, a 79-57 victory, was on November 26, 1997, when the Bobcats were Southwest Texas State. It was just the third regular-season game played in the newly completed Cox Arena and the first win for San Diego State in their new home.
The first six-game run in the Pac-12 slate for SDSU wraps up on Saturday, January 23, in Boise, Idaho. It will be the 37th meeting, SDSU leads 21-15, in a series that started with a game in the 1976-77 season and then went on a 35-year hiatus. The teams did not play again until 2011-12 when Boise State joined the Mountain West. The Aztecs are 5-9 at ExtraMile Arena, and just 1-4 in their last five trips. As members of the Mountain West, the Aztecs were outscored by an average of 2.3 points per game in Boise, and their nine-point loss, 86-77, last season, is their worst result since an 88-64 defeat in the 2018-19 season.
Following its first bye, San Diego State is at Colorado State on Saturday, January 30, where it has just a 15-30 mark in games played at Moby Arena, but is 12-8 there since the 2005-06 season. In those 12 victories, the Aztecs outscored Colorado State by 9.8 points, which includes a double-digit advantage in half of the victories, and in its eight losses, just one has been by 10-plus points and that came in the 2011-12 campaign. SDSU has dropped its last three games in Fort Collins and has not won in the city since an 82-76 overtime win 2022-23. Four Aztecs reached double figures in the scoring column in that game, led by 19 points from Lamont Butler.
The team returns to Steve Fisher Court for its next game, against Utah State on Thursday, February 4. San Diego State leads its series with the Aggies, 21-14. Thirty two of those 35 games in the series have come from the start of the 2013-14 season, when the programs became conference foes. Utah State won each of the three games played as non-conference opponents, which means SDSU is 21-11 versus USU in the last 13 years. The Aztecs are 11-2 at home against the Aggies since the start of the 2013-14 season and saw their 10-game win streak snapped in 2024-25 in a 67-66 loss on an Aggies’ 3-pointer with seven seconds on the clock. Outside of that contest, SDSU has won its home games against Utah State by an average of 15.1 points, including last year’s 17-point, 89-72, win in which four Aztecs, led by Reese Dixon-Waters’ 20 points, scored in double figures.
After Utah State, Gonzaga comes to Viejas Arena on Saturday, February 6, for the initial meeting as conference foes of the two most dominant college basketball programs on the West Coast in the last 20 years. The Aztecs and Zags have played six times since the start of the 1959-60 season with five of those games having come since the 2010-11 campaign. The programs have split the series 3-3 including a pair of games at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs won the initial meeting 72-70 in the 2017-18 season, but came up short in the last matchup, 80-67, in the 2024-25 campaign.
Ahead of its second bye, SDSU has a trip to San Marcos, Texas, for a game on Thursday, February 11, at Texas State, its first in more than 30 years. The lone contest between these programs at the Bobcats’ Strahan Arena, an 81-77 victory for Texas State, came on December 10, 1996.
Returning to conference action on Wednesday, February 17, the Scarlet and Black are in Logan, Utah, for the start of its final six-game stretch of the regular season. In what is one of the harshest venues in the nation for an opponent, Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, the Aztecs are 5-7 in the last 13 years. SDSU came away with wins in four of its first five appearances in Logan, as members of the same conference, but in the last seven games, has emerged as the winner just once. Four of those six losses have been by single digits, including last year’s 71-66 defeat in which Reese Dixon-Waters led the team with 19 points.
Back in America’s Finest City for its next two games, San Diego State plays Washington State on Saturday, February 20, a team it has not hosted in over two decades; last competing at Viejas Arena on December 10, 2005. SDSU is 0-3 at home against the Cougars: falling 76-67 at the Sports Arena in the season opener of the 1974-75 campaign, 73-51 at Peterson Gym in the 1992 Texaco Star Classic, and 60-49 at Viejas Arena at the 2005 San Diego Slam. Following the Washington State game will be the initial appearance at Steve Fisher Court of the Oregon State Beavers on Thursday, February 25.
The penultimate regular season road contest is at Gonzaga on Saturday, February 27. San Diego State is 2-1 in games played in Spokane with the most recent contest in McCarthey Athletic Center an 84-74 win over the then No. 13-ranked Zags. The win snapped Gonzaga’s 59-game non-conference home win streak and was its first double-digit home loss in 173 games.
San Diego State’s final Pac-12 road game finds SDSU in Fresno on Wednesday, March 3. SDSU is 28-33 in games played in the Central Valley but has a 12-8 record there since the 1996-97 campaign and has won each of its last seven games at Save Mart Center. In the last game in Fresno, an 84-62 win for then 24th-ranked San Diego State, SDSU limited the Bulldogs to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field, which included 18.5 percent from beyond the arc and Fresno State kept it to a 22-point game due to going to the free throw line 30 times to the Aztecs’ 17. Fresno State made 21 shots from the charity stripe; more than SDSU attempted.
The regular season slate wraps up on Saturday, March 6, with the Scarlet and Black hosting Boise State. In San Diego, the Aztecs are 12-4 against the Broncos, which includes an 11-4 mark at Steve Fisher Court. In the last two games played in Viejas Arena, in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, San Diego State has handed the Broncos the second worst beating they have suffered at Steve Fisher Court, a 64-47 hammering on February 15, 2025, and last year, the teams played the Aztecs’ third Division I triple overtime game, a 110-107 thriller on January 3, 2026. With SDSU clinging to a 108-107 lead with 12 seconds to play in the third overtime, Elzie Harrington knocked down a pair of free throws to secure the victory.
