SAN DIEGO –After capturing opening round wins at the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships on Friday, Vesa Gjinaj and Jayna Clemens fell in the doubles round of 16 and singles round of 32 on Saturday.
The Aztec duo battled in their doubles matchup, but came up short in a 6-4 decision against Stanford’s Kaia Giribalan and Sein Myoung. The seniors earned their first win as a team against San Diego’s Charlotte Keitel and Maria Shmakova by a score of 6-0 in the round of 32.
Clemens faced off against Nevada’s Nikol Mircheva in the singles round of 32, but was bested 6-2, 6-2.
Next up, select Aztecs will compete at the ITF W100 Templeton and W35 Redding before playing in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, which will be hosted at the Aztec Tennis Center from Oct. 15-Oct. 19.
