SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State will debut “The Age of the Jaguar” uniforms for its home game against James Madison on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium. The bold uniform design is inspired by Ocelotl, the Aztec word for jaguar, deepening the ways in which the university honors its Aztec identity.
It will be the first time in program history that the Aztecs will wear a red uniform with red pants.

The uniform brings together SDSU’s signature red and black palette with a deeper story of strength, courage and identity. The look is anchored by a black helmet, featuring the Ocelotl glyph on one side and the player number on the other.
The Ocelotl mark connects the design to the jaguar’s historic symbolism: power, valor, and military prowess, and linked to health, grit, and perseverance. In Aztec tradition, Ocelotl represents Tezcatlipoca, god of the night sky, memory, and time. The jaguar also represents elite warriors who embodied discipline, bravery, and strength in battle.
“The Age of the Jaguar” extends the Glyphs iconography introduced last year, bringing that visual language from brand storytelling into the on-field uniform system. The Ocelotl glyph is the centerpiece of the helmet, while the custom sublimated artwork on the jersey sleeves and pant side panels carries the same sense of cultural texture throughout the full look.
Together, the uniform is designed to be bold from a distance and meaningful up close. It honors cultural symbolism, reflects San Diego State’s visual identity, and creates a modern on-field expression of confidence, strength, and competitive edge.
The Aztecs (1-1) take their seven-game winning streak into Saturday’s matchup with James Madison (2-0). The game kicks off at 7 p.m. PT.
Season tickets, single-game tickets and family four-packs are currently on sale for the San Diego State football team’s 2026 campaign, its first in the Pac-12 Conference.
