Ella Schabort, Kendall Mairs Garner Pac-12 Weekly Accolades

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State volleyball team collected two awards on Tuesday, as senior Ella Schabort earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honors, while sophomore Kendall Mairs was named the league’s Setter of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office in San Ramon, California.

With the acclaim, the Aztecs garnered their first two Pac-12 weekly accolades of the season. Schabort picked up her first conference weekly certificate in a Scarlet and Black uniform, while Mairs received weekly plaudits for the first time in her career. Both players made key contributions to SDSU’s 2-1 record at the Santa Clara Mission Classic, Sept. 11-13.

A native of Perth, Australia, Schabort led the Pac-12 with averages of 4.75 points and 4.25 kills in 12 sets across three matches, totaling 51 kills, 20 digs, four block assists, four service aces and four setting assists for the week. The Aztec outside hitter also ranked second in the league with a combined .500 hitting percentage, committing just seven errors in 88 attempts.

In a sweep of Santa Clara on Sept. 11, Schabort recorded career highs of 19 kills and a .692 hitting percentage, earning Player of the Match honors following the contest. Her .692 hitting percentage represents the highest efficiency in the Pac-12 this season and 10th-best in the nation this year (min. 20 attempts).

In addition, Schabort’s 19 kills are the most for a three-set match in the Pac-12 this year and tied for eighth in the conference for all matches. That 19-kill effort is also tied for the 21st-best performance in the nation for a three-set match this season.

In a narrow defeat to California the following day, Schabort flashed her versatility by completing her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs, hitting .400 overall while adding two aces and two setting assists.

In SDSU’s 3-1 triumph over CSU Bakersfield in the weekend finale, Schabort led all players with 17 kills, finishing with a .438 hitting percentage while contributing two service aces and three block assists.

For the season, Schabort finds herself among the Pac-12 leaders in several categories, ranking fifth in kills (3.62/set) and seventh in hitting percentage (.295) while tying for 10th in service aces (0.34/set)

A native of Camas, Washington, Mairs enjoyed another set of all-round performances in three matches, leading the Pac-12 with 118 assists for the week while ranking second with 9.83 assists per set. She also led the team with five service aces and ranked third on the squad with 30 digs (2.50) while adding five kills and one block assist.

Against Santa Clara, Mairs’ setting prowess helped the Aztecs record a .407 team hitting percentage, which marks the highest efficiency for a single match in the Pac-12 this season and best by an SDSU squad since 2018. In that contest, she dished out 32 assists while adding seven digs and one kill.

The following day vs. Cal, Mairs logged her fifth double-double of the season with 42 assists and a season-high 15 digs. She also served up a season-high three aces to go with three kills and one block assist.

Mairs then saved her best for last in the tournament finale against Cal State Bakersfield when she established a career high with 44 assists while contributing eight digs and one kill. She did not commit an error in 83 attempts vs. the Runners for a season-best .530 setting percentage.

For the season, Mairs ranks second in the Pac-12 in assists (9.66/set), four in service aces and 10th in digs (2.90/set).

Schabort and Mairs will be back in action with their Aztec teammates on Friday, Sept. 18, when San Diego State plays hosts to Arizona in its 2026 home opener, starting at 6 p.m. PT.

The following night, the Aztecs will make the short drive across town to battle the University of San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
