Aztecs Tie for 10th at Sahalee Players Championship

SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- The San Diego State men’s golf team finished in a tie for 10th place at the Sahalee Players Championship, which wrapped up under wet and rainy conditions Sunday Sammamish, Washington. The Aztecs finished at 42-over-par 906 on the par-72, 7,003-yard Sahalee Country Club, including a 15-over 303 in today’s final round.

SDSU, which is receiving votes in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches’ Poll, tied with No. 12 Pepperdine at +42, three shots ahead of No. 24 Arizona (+45). No. 3 Oklahoma State completed its wire-to-wire victory with a 4-under 284 to win by 28 strokes at 4-under 860. Top-ranked Florida was second at +24, while host Washington (+26) was third, followed by No. 12 Illinois (+27), Duke (+31), No. 4 Arizona State (+32), No. 8 North Carolina (+32), No. 14 UCLA (+33) and California (+41).

Junior Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) led the way for San Diego State, tying for 14th out of 72 golfers at 6-over 222 following his second straight 73. Starting on the 10th hole, Takis was quickly 4-over through his first six holes, but sank four birdies and a lone bogey the rest of the way.

Sophomore Beau Sahr (Eagle, Idaho) tied for 20th at +8 with a 74 on Sunday. Sahr had three bogeys on his front nine with his lone birdie coming on the par-3, 193-yard fifth hole.

Junior Lequan Wang (San Mateo, Calif./UC Davis) tied for 37th at +12. Wang carded a 79 today with two birdies.

Freshmen Miles Kuhl (Boulder, Colo.) and Brayden Forte (Aurora, Colo.) tied for 57th and 59th, respectively, at +19 and +20. Kuhl had a 79 in today’s final round and Forte shot a 78.

Junior Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) tied for 64th at +22 with a 78 on Sunday.

Washington’s Finn Koelle captured medalist honors at 7-under 209, thanks to a blazing 66 in today’s final round. Four players from the tournament champion Oklahoma State finished among the top 6.

The same six will tee it up for the Aztecs at USD’s Vuori Invitational at nearby Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. SDSU will tee off from the 10th hole at 8:55 a.m. PT with Long Beach State and Pacific.
