SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (3-2-1) is heading to Orem, Utah, to take on the Utah Valley Wolverines (3-2-1) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT). The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ to paid subscribers.
Last week, the Aztecs played on Thursday night at Oklahoma State. Naima Castro scored for the second straight match, this time in the 17th minute. The Cowgirls were granted a pair of penalty kicks in the match. Carlen made a terrific save on the first one, but the second, by Addy Lang in the 75th minute, allowed Oklahoma State to tie the score. Kenny Moore appeared to have a go-ahead goal for SDSU in the final minutes, but it was called back for offsides and the match finished in a 1-1 draw. On Sunday, the Aztecs battled Texas Tech. The turning point in the match came in the second half after Texas Tech had taken a 2-0 lead. Katie Senn converted on a penalty kick to bring the Aztecs within a goal and SDSU threatened to tie things up, but two shots were saved by Red Raiders keeper Addie Todd and another deflected off the crossbar. TTU’s goals were the first two allowed by the Aztecs in open play this season.
The Scarlet and Black have split two matches with Utah Valley, both on the SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs won 6-0 on August 21, 2015, but the Wolverines won the last meeting by a 4-2 score, on September 22, 2024.
The Wolverines, who are playing their first season in the Big West, are coming off a pair of wins in the OUTRIGGER No Ka Oi in Honolulu, Hawai’i, to win the tournament title. UVU took down Washington State 1-0 on Thursday and New Mexico State 4-0 on Sunday. The Aztecs will face the Cougars on the road in Pac-12 play on October 22. Utah Valley played at home in its first four matches against tough competition. They tied Michigan 1-1, fell 2-0 to Utah, dropped a match 1-0 against Utah State and beat then-No. 17 Kansas 2-1. The Aztecs will play at Utah State in their regular season finale on November 5.
SDSU will return home for its final two non-conference matches. The Aztecs will host Pepperdine at 7 p.m. on September 17 and Northern Colorado at noon on September 20. All Aztecs home matches on the SDSU Sports Deck are free to attend and are streamed for free on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.
