SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State Cross Country has officially announced their schedule for the upcoming 2026 season. The Aztecs will appear in seven races during the fall including both their first ever Pac-12 Championships as well as the NCAA West Regionals.
The season will begin with the Aztecs hosting the second annual Aztec Coastal Classic at the Mission Valley River Park next to Snapdragon Stadium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. PST with a men’s seven kilometer run before the women’s five-kilometer race starts at 6:30 p.m. This year the Aztecs will face an expanded field with both UC San Diego and the University of San Diego making the trip across town, as well as Point Loma and UC Irvine joining the competition this year.
Next on the schedule is a trip to Riverside, Calif. in which SDSU will compete at the UC Riverside Invitational on September 19. At last year’s race, sophomore Emilia Greenway posted a personal best in the 6K, running 21:40.0, and was the second fastest Aztec on the day. Fellow sophomore Ginger Oberg also posted a six-kilometer personal best with a time of 22:13.0.
The Aztecs will kick off the month of October with their fourth consecutive trip to the University of Oregon to participate in the Bill Dellinger Invitational on October 9. San Diego State will face off against a field featuring programs from the Big Ten, Pac-12 and more. Greenway was once again the second finisher for the Aztecs last season and will look to build upon her strong showing in Oregon this year. The following weekend will see the team return to UC Riverside to compete in the Highlander Invitational on October 17.
The postseason will begin with the team gearing up for the program's first ever Pac-12 Championships on October 30 in Boise, Idaho at the Warm Springs Golf Course. The NCAA West Regional meet will take place at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento; the Hornets of Sacramento State are set to host the event for the 2026 season.
Head coach Robert Lusitana will lead a young but talented group through the programs debut Pac-12 season. Elliana Lomeli, Alexis Wolfinger and Emily Russo join Oberg and Greenway to form a sophomore quintet that saw plenty of action during their freshman seasons in 2025. Greenway, Russo and Wolfinger were members of the 2025 Mountain West Championship team that secured the second-best team finish since the 2012 conference championship meet. Lomeli currently holds the sixth fastest time and freshman class record for the indoor mile having run 4:58.29 during last year’s track season. The returning Aztecs will be joined eight new athletes including seven freshmen and Isabella Frisone, an upperclassman transfer from Boise State.
