NEW YORK Jessica Kain, a member of the class of 2024 who represented the Aztecs in both cross country and track & field, competed at USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in the 1,500m late last week. The USATF Outdoor Championships sees many of the top athletes in the United States race to earn national championship recognition.

Kain competed in the 1,500m where she faced off against a competitive field including 2024 United States Olympians Nikki Hiltz and Emily Mackay. In the preliminary heats, Kain posted a fifth-place finish in her race thanks to a personal best 4:06.21 performance. Two days later in the finals she claimed sixth place while running 4:11.10 including holding second place through the first 800-meters of the race. With this performance Kain emerges as one of the top 1,500m runners in the nation while also facing off against some of the best athletes the nation has to offer in the middle-distance events.

While at SDSU Kain put together an outstanding resume across both the cross country and track team. She is the school record holder in the indoor 3,000m while also owning top 10 program marks in the 800m (indoor), mile (indoor), 800 (outdoor), 1,500m (outdoor) and 5,000m (outdoor), Kain was also named to the All-Mountain West team four times as well as the Mountain West Outdoor Athlete of the Week three times in her career. Kain was an NCAA West Regional qualifier in the 1,500m three times in her career while also earning a pair of silver medals and a bronze medal in the 1,500m at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships. She also secured a bronze medal in the mile at the indoor Mountain West Championships in 2023.
