SAN DIEGO – Isaiah Sy, a 6-7 wing, has signed an athletic aid agreement with San Diego State and will compete for the Aztecs’ men’s basketball program for the 2026-27 season. Head Coach Brian Dutcher made the announcement on Wednesday.
Sy (see), a native of Marseilles, France, has spent the last two years competing for the Oregon State Beavers after spending his freshman campaign at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas. He arrives on The Mesa with one year of eligibility.
For his major college career, 67.5 percent (104-of-154) of his field goals have come from beyond the arc, including 68.6 percent (64-of-93) in the 2025-26 campaign. In the last two seasons, he is 1-of-26 players in the nation, from which at least 67.5 percent of his field goals have been from the bonus distance. He has made at least one 3-pointer in 51-of-66 games in the last two years and two or more 35 times. A player who values the ball, Sy has committed one or fewer turnovers in a game 52 times (78.8 percent of his appearances).
Last season, in 29 starts and 33 total appearances, Sy averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 27.9 minutes per game and garnered honorable mention All-West Coast Conference (WCC) honors. He shot 34.1 percent from the field, 35.4 from beyond the arc and 87.1 percent from the line. He reached double-figure scoring 14 times, OSU was 11-5 in those contests, including a career-high 25 points against Loyola Marymount (LMU) on January 14, 2026. He recorded his first two double doubles: 25 points and 11 rebounds versus LMU, and 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds against San Diego on February 25, 2026. His 4.6 rebounds per game would have ranked No. 2 for SDSU last year and his 104 3-pointers in the last two years are more than any Aztec has in that timeframe.
In 2024-25, he made his major college debut in a start against Utah Tech on November 4, 2024, one of seven starts he would get among 33 appearances in his initial major college campaign. Sy averaged 5.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 18.5 minutes per outing. He shot 41.2 percent from the floor, 34.2 percent from distance, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line. He reached double figure scoring in six games with a season-high 15 points in a win over Western Oregon on November 12, 2024.
In five starts and 30 total appearances in his initial college season at Cloud County Community College, he averaged 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists in an average of 26.2 minutes per game. The team posted a 21-11 mark, including 15-9 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) action. He reached double figure scoring in 18 games, including a season-high 29 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, which includes going 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, against Pratt Community College. He shot 47.9 percent from the floor, 47.1 percent from the bonus distance and 788 percent from the line. Among his 104 buckets, 88 were from distance (84.6 percent). He earned honorable mention All-KJCCC distinction for his play and second team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic honors for his classroom work.
Sy is the fourth player to join San Diego State through the transfer portal for the 2026-27 season. He joins Nick Anderson, Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry, and Chance Gladden. In addition, SDSU has international signees David Torresani, Luka Skoric and Luca Vincini, as well as freshman Zach White to add to returners Elzie Harrington, Tae Simmons, Latrell Davis and Thokbor Majak on the 2026-27 roster.
