Mia Maechtel and Maya Tillman Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Mia Maechtel and Maya Tillman have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Maechtel and Tillman were selected as women’s at-large selections.

CSC Academic All-District honors are awarded to top student-athletes for their standout athletic and academic performances. To be considered, a student-athlete must achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) and compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games played. The at-large team includes those competing in ice hockey, lacrosse, water polo, fencing, rifle, skiing, golf, gymnastics, volleyball and wrestling.

Sophomores Maechtel and Tillman led the Aztecs through the team’s second campaign as a part of the Big 12, commanding the offensive and defensive sides of the field this season.

An attacker out of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, Maechtel was San Diego State’s 2026 leading scorer, amassing 44 points from 29 goals and 15 assists. She recorded a career high eight points against Columbia off five goals and three assists, tying the second-most points in a single game in the Big 12 this season as well as the fifth-most by an Aztec in program history. She also combined for three goals and four assists in wins over FDU, Akron and Xavier.

Off the field, Maechtel holds a 3.80 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in biology.

Tillman, a defender out of White Plains, N.Y., helped the Aztecs claim second in the league in caused turnovers per game (7.88), leading the team with 20. She forced three turnovers in the team’s victories against FDU and Akron. Tillman also picked up 20 ground balls, which was the third highest by an Aztec this season.

Through her sophomore year, Tillman has achieved a 3.86 GPA while majoring in journalism media studies.

The Aztecs look ahead to their third season in the Big 12 in 2027.
