CLOVIS, CALIF. –San Diego State’s final day at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships was highlighted by great success on the track. The Aztecs earned four medals across the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles as well as the 200-meter dash.
The duo of Jada Pierre and Charlize James have been mainstays atop the podium for the 100-meter hurdles for the last three years. This year Jada Pierre retained her status as the top hurdler in the Mountain West by winning her second consecutive championship. Pierre pulled away from the pack while running 13.18. Charlize James remained locked in and closed the final 25 meters strong on her way to running 13.34. Brinley Campbell also scored points for the Aztecs with her 13.88 final time.
In the 400-meter hurdles Anna Mager put together a career best effort with a 57.98 that not only secured a silver medal but moved Mager to fifth all-time in the event. Lidia Major added points to SDSU’s total running 1:00.60.
The team's final medal of the evening came courtesy of Aji Mbye in the 200-meter dash. Mbye, the bronze medalist in the 200-meter indoor, returned to the podium with a 23.41 time. Mbye’s third place finish added six more points to the team’s total. Freshman Kelia Bentham also contributed to the total team score with a time of 24.04.
In the 400-meter dash the freshman duo of Bentham and Shari Hurdman represented the Aztecs. Hurdman barely missed a podium finish as she took fourth place with a 53.45 time.
In the field events, Alyssa Alumbres triple jump of 12.30m was good to score points for the Aztecs and the 4x400 meter relay team’s fifth place finish also earned points for the program.
Overall SDSU finished in sixth with 64 total points. The 100-meter hurdles team led the way with 19 points while Jenna Fee Feyerabend added 10 points for her victory in the heptathlon. The team will await to see which athletes qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas which will take place from May 27-30
