CLOVIS, CALIF. –San Diego State’s second day of the Mountain West Outdoor Championship got off to a strong start thanks to the efforts of Jenna Fee Feyerabend. Alongside Feyerabend’s podium worthy performance, the Aztecs had six additional athletes qualifying for the final heat in multiple races with Jada Pierre earning a final spot in both the 100-meter dash and hurdles.
Jenna Fee Feyerabend ends her final appearance in the Mountain West Championship in fitting fashion. The senior secured her third gold medal in the heptathlon thanks to a meet record 5,905 total points. During the second day of competition, Feyerabend picked up a first-place finish in the javelin throw with a 44.06m mark. In the 800-meter run portion she finished in second with a time of 2:19.53 thanks to a strong closing kick across the final 300-meters. Feyerabend also posted a third-place finish in the long jump.
On the track, Jada Pierre led the way as she qualified for the finals in both the 100-meter dash and hurdles. Her time of 13.07 in the hurdles was the top performance of the day while the 11.41 she ran in the 100-meter dash was the fifth fastest in SDSU outdoor history. Charlize James and Brinley Campbell also punched their tickets to the finals of the hurdles, giving the Aztecs three of the nine qualifying spots.
The freshman duo of Kelia Bentham and Shari Hurdman also posted strong performances in the 400-meter dash with both sprinters also advancing to the final round on Saturday. Bentham will represent SDSU in both the 400 and 200-meter dash finals.
Day three of the championships is primed to begin at 3:00 p.m. PST with Alyssa Alumbres competing in the triple jump. The Aztecs will have athletes competing across multiple events including the finals of the 100m dash, 100m hurdles, 200m dash, 400m dash, 400m hurdles. The team will also race in the 5,000-meter run and both relays. All events will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
