CLOVIS, CALIF. –San Diego State began the first day of competition at the 2026 Mountain West Outdoor Championships with strong showings in multiple events. The Aztecs saw action in the heptathlon as well as raced in the preliminary rounds for the 800, 200 and 400-meter hurdle races.
As has been the case all season long, Jenna Fee Feyerabend was dynamic in the opening round of the heptathlon. The senior and two-time Mountain West champion finished in first place in the shot put portion of the day with a throw of 13.77m. No other athlete cleared 12.50m. Feyerabend managed to come in second place in both the high jump and 100-meter hurdles while ending the day with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Her 3,480 points is 281 ahead of the second-place athlete.
On the track, five more Aztecs participated in the 200-meter dash preliminaries. Aji Mbye picked up a win in heat four while running 23.29. She finished third overall while securing a spot in the finals on Saturday. Freshman Kelia Bentham also locked in her spot for the final heat by running a new personal best of 23.59. Bentham will be the only freshman to compete in the finals on Saturday. San Diego State’s final event of the day was the 400-meter hurdles. In the first heat the duo of Anna Mager and Lidia Major would finish first and second to ensure both of their spots in the finals. Mager’s time of 58.44 was both a new personal best and the fastest time of the qualifying rounds. Major also posted a new personal best with a final time of 59.87 and will join her teammate in the hunt for a podium finish on Saturday.
Day two of the championships is primed to begin at 10:20 a.m. PST. The Aztecs will have athletes competing across multiple events including the long jump, pole vault, 1,500-meter run and 3,000 steeplechase. The team will also race in the preliminary rounds for the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. All events will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
