IRVINE, CALIF.– San Diego State Track & Field’s distance team made the short drive up north to compete in the annual Steve Scott Invitational hosted by the Anteaters of UC Irvine. The Aztecs competed in multiple events including five athletes racing in the 1,500-meter run.
The top performance of the day came courtesy of senior steeplechase athlete, Samantha Wood. Wood has been a mainstay in the Aztec’s top-10 standings for the steeplechase and now owns the second fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in program history. She wrapped up her regular season running 10:38.48. She finished in fourth place beating out competitors from various NCAA Division I programs including UC Irvine, UC San Diego and Loyola Marymount.
A trio of athletes also competed in the 800-meter invitational section led by Tatum Zinkin. Zinkin finished in third place in her heat with Sara Jones finishing right behind her in fourth. Freshman Elliana Lomeli represented SDSU in the 1,500-meter run posting a final time of 4:40.40 to secure a top three finish in her heat.
Rounding out the evening of competition was the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Emilia Greenway was the Aztecs’ top performer running 17:43.28. Alexis Wolfinger and Maddy Parrone also competed in the 5,000.
