SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s track and field is set to host the 48th annual Aztec Invitational on the SDSU Sports Deck and will use this meet as the team’s senior day to honor 11 graduating athletes. The Aztecs will compete in over 10 events across the day.
SDSU’s sprint team will be at the forefront of the action throughout the day. The Aztecs will feature eight competitors in the 100-meter dash, all of which will be racing in the first heat of the event. The 200-meter dash will be even more loaded with Aztec athletes as 11 members of San Diego State are set to race across the first two heats. The trio of Charlize James, Brinley Campbell and Ana Luisa Couto Soares Ferraz will also see action in the 100-meter hurdles.
The team’s highly ranked pole vault squad will return to the Sports Deck with their eyes set on defending their ranking as the number five pole vault team in the nation according to USTFCCCA as of April 7. San Diego State will deploy their jumping team across the triple and long jump pits. All-American Xiamara Young will lead the charge with Alyssa Alumbres, Giselle Galles and Alexandria Rogers joining her.
This will be the final home meet for the Aztecs before they turn their attention to the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational, both meets will be hosted on April 15-16.
Individual Notes
- San Diego State’s pole vault team is currently ranked #5 in the nation according to USTFCCCA. The 400-meter dash team is ranked #8 and the 100-meter hurdles team is ranked #11.
- The Aztecs have posted 11 first place finishes so far during the outdoor season. Jada Pierre leads the way with three first place victories as an individual.
