Aztecs Earn Multiple First Place Victories at Day Two of the Triton Invitational

The Aztecs dominated the second day of Triton Invitational as nine individuals earned top three finishes in their respective events.

SAN DIEGO– San Diego State continued their strong showing at the Triton Invitational with a dominant performance on Saturday. Nine different athletes finished in the top three of their respective events including a pair of new top 10 all-time marks.

San Diego State had their best showing in the 400-meter dash. Leading the way was freshman Shari Hurdman who brought home the victory behind the seventh fastest 400-meter performance in program history running 53.04. Laraigh Allen and Kelia Bentham took second and third place respectively with both setting new personal best. Lidia Major also finished in the top 10 claiming ninth place.

In the 100-meter dash Aji Mbye secured another first place win for the Aztecs running 11.59. Olivia Hicks ran 11.76 on the way to a fifth-place finish while Mikaela Warr’s 11.84 was good for seventh. In the 100-meter hurdles Jada Pierre’s 13.15 saw her cruise to her third first place finish of the outdoor season.

The pole vault team continued to impress with Isabella Nilsen stamping her name in the outdoor record book. Nilsen’s 4.21m jump not only serves as a new personal best but also moved her into eighth all-time at SDSU. Sydney Ash also had her best vault of the season clearing 4.01m and also moving into a tie for the eighteenth best outdoor vault at SDSU. Alyssa Alumbres posted a new personal best in the triple jump with 12.26m while also taking third place.

Up Next

The Aztecs will return to the SDSU Sports Deck next weekend for the annual Aztec Invitational. The meet will span three days across April 8-10 while also serving as senior day for the Aztec’s graduating athletes. Later this month the team will head to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California as well competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific.
