BOISE, Idaho – San Diego State men’s tennis captured a ranked win on the road after taking down No. 61 Boise State in a 4-3 thriller on Saturday. The Aztecs improve to 10-10 overall and 4-1 in conference play and are second in the Mountain West standings. The Broncos fall to 19-7 on the year and 3-2 in the league.
The Aztecs put the first point on the board after taking courts one and three in doubles competition. Aleksi Lofman and William Kleege downed No. 81 Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson 6-3 on court one. The Broncos responded with a 6-3 win on court two, where Lars Johann and Denis Maijorov were bested by Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist. Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Imran Daniel Hazli clinched the point with a 6-3 victory over Idriss Haddouch and Taiyo Kurata on court three.
In singles competition, the Broncos grabbed the first point when Finn Willman fell 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to Lukas Velik on court four. Lofman then earned San Diego State’s second point after taking down Tallakson 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the top spot. Brock Anderson extended the lead with a 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against Julius Seifert on court six.
Boise State bounced back for two straight points to pull within one. Johann was tripped up 7-6 (7-3), 3-6, 6-4 by Soderqvist on the fifth court before Gonzalez Fitzmaurice was bested 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 by Aronson in the second spot.
Hazli secured the victory, defeating Baker 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4 on court three.
