The 51st-ranked Aztecs enter the tournament with a 21-3 overall record and finished the conference season 10-1. It is the most wins since the 2013 campaign and just the eighth 20+ win season in program history. This is San Diego State’s 25th appearance in the NCAA Championships.

The team was a dominant force in the Mountain West this year, capturing its second consecutive regular season championship and its second tournament title in the last three years. The accolades continue to roll in for the Aztecs, as first-year Head Coach Nicolas Vinel was named Mountain West Coach of the Year on Thursday, while four Aztecs garnered all-conference doubles honors (Jayna Clemens/Ninon Martinache, Jo-Yee Chan/Vessa Turley) and two received singles recognition (Chan, Gloria Alogo). Six Aztecs also made the all-tournament team in singles and doubles (Singles: Chan, Alogo, Vesa Gjinaj, Teja Tirunelveli, Liisa Varul; Doubles: Chan/Turley, Varul/Alogo). Chan was also named Tournament MVP.

The highly anticipated rematch between the Aztecs and the Bruins comes 103 days after the two teams met in the 2026 season opener back on Jan. 18 when 17th-ranked UCLA earned a 5-2 victory, handing San Diego State one of only three losses of the year. Now ranked 18th in the nation, UCLA is 16-7 overall and finished 9-4 in the Big 10.

The winners of Friday’s matches will go head-to-head for a trip to the super-regionals at noon PT on Saturday.
