SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Lilah Turley has been unanimously selected to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. The Aztec joins 12 other student-athletes on the all-conference team.
Turley, a true freshman out of Lake Oswego, Ore., played a vital role for the Aztecs in the midfield this season. She was the team’s fourth leading scorer with 16 goals, including a career high three to help push San Diego State past FDU in February. She also recorded the second-most ground balls by an Aztec this season, picking up 22, ranking her 10th in the Big 12 in ground balls per game (1.38). Additionally, her 19 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers made Turley a dynamic part of the scheme on both ends of the field.
The freshman recorded a career high four ground balls and three draw controls against California in the season opener. Her career high four caused turnovers came against Florida on April 11.
In the team’s second year as a part of the Big 12, this is the third all-newcomer team distinction for the Aztecs. Current sophomore Keira Doyle-Odenbach also earned the all-conference nod after her freshman campaign.
