SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is headed to the 2026 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship after earning an automatic bid on Saturday via a Mountain West Tournament title. The Aztecs will face UCLA in the opening round in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday at 10 a.m. PT, the NCAA committee announced on Monday.

San Diego State and UCLA will be joined by Denver and Arizona State, the regional host and 16th seed. Four teams play at each of the 16 regional sites, with the winner advancing to super-regional competition the following weekend. The eight super-regional winners will advance to the final rounds to be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. May 16-18.

Following their championship run at the Mountain West Championships this past weekend, the Aztecs hold a 21-3 overall record. It is just the eighth 20+ win season in program history, and the first since 2013.

Friday’s contest will be the second time the Aztecs face the Bruins this season. In the team’s dual season opener on Jan. 18, San Diego State came up short 5-2. UCLA currently leads the all-time series 28-8.

The last time the Aztecs played the Sun Devils was in the 2019 season when the Scarlet and Black fell 5-2. Arizona State currently holds a narrow 16-14 advantage in the all-time series.

San Diego State and Denver have only faced off twice in program history, with the Aztecs winning both matches, including a 4-2 victory during the 2025 campaign.

This is the 25th team appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the first under Head Coach Nicolas Vinel. The Aztecs will look to capture the program’s 12th ever tournament win and the first since 2000.
