CINCINNATI, Ohio – San Diego State lacrosse closed out its 2026 campaign with a win on the road, taking down Xavier 10-5 on Sunday morning. The Aztecs finish the season with a 3-13 overall record.
The San Diego State offense was led by sophomore midfielder Keira Doyle-Odenbach with three goals on the day, in addition to three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Doyle-Odenbach was the team’s leading scorer for the entirety of the season, tallying 33 goals.
Sophia Miller and Molly Jacobson had two goals apiece, while Lilah Turley, Macie Buell and Mia Maechtel each put one in the back of the net. Jacobson, Turley and Maechtel also dished out an assist, and Turley picked up three draw controls and one ground ball.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton logged 60 minutes in the cage in her final game as an Aztec, recording a season high 14 saves off 26 shots faced.
Xavier was led by Samantha Balara and Haley Reeck, both with two goals, and Gabby Bouman added one. The Aztec defense tied its season low in goals allowed, only giving up five.
Jada Brandon started in the goal for the Musketeers, playing 28 minutes and grabbing three saves with five goals allowed before she was replaced by Riley Ohrel, who was between the pipes for 32 minutes, notching six saves with five goals allowed.
The Aztecs got on the board first with a goal from Doyle-Odenbach at the 10:24 mark. The Musketeers then responded, scoring two from Reeck and Bouman, taking a 2-1 lead at the end of a low-scoring first quarter. Buell tied things up at the start of the second quarter, assisted by Jacobson. Three minutes later, Balara gave the advantage back to Xavier, but the Aztecs quickly took ahold of the momentum with back-to-back goals from Turley and Miller. The teams traded one goal each at the end of the first half, but the Aztecs went into the break ahead 5-4. San Diego State scored the lone two goals of the third quarter, thanks to Doyle-Odenbach and Miller, extending the lead for the Scarlet and Black, who went on to outscore the Musketeers 3-1 in the final 15 minutes to capture a 10-5 victory.
San Diego State puts a cap on its 2026 season and its second year in the Big 12, sending off six graduating seniors.
