LAS VEGAS – San Diego State men’s tennis ended its stay at the Mountain West Championships in the semifinals after being tripped up 4-0 by third-seeded Boise State on Thursday evening.
The Aztecs finish their 2026 campaign with a 12-12 overall record and 5-2 in conference play. They advanced to the semifinals after capturing a 4-1 win over Air Force in Wednesday’s opening round.
In doubles competition, Lars Johann and Brock Anderson notched a dominant 6-0 win over Taiyo Kurata and Idriss Haddouch on court three. Aleksi Lofman and William Kleege were then bested 6-4 by Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson on the top court. The point came down to the matchup in the second spot between Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice/Imran Daniel Hazli and Stewart Aronson/Filip Soderqvist. It was a battle to a tiebreak, but the Broncos ultimately picked up a 7-6 (7-4) win to earn the first point of the match.
In singles competition, Boise State added its second point on court six where Anderson was bested 6-3, 6-1 by Kurata. Finn Willman was then tripped up 6-3, 6-1 by Soderqvist on court four. Lukas Velik was the clincher for the Broncos, taking court five 6-3, 7-5 over Johann.
On the top court, Lofman was early in the third set in his matchup against Tallakson at a score of 6-2, 3-6, 0-1 in the Bronco’s favor. Hazli was ahead 4-1against Aronson in the second spot after falling 6-4 in the first set. Gonzalez Fitzmaurice also led in his second set, 3-1 against Baker, who took the first set 6-4 on the fourth court.
