CINCINNATI, Ohio – San Diego State lacrosse has wrapped up its conference schedule after taking on its final Big 12 opponent, Cincinnati, on Friday. The Aztecs came up short 18-8, falling to a 2-13 overall record and 0-5 in the Big 12.
San Diego State’s offense was led by Mia Maechtel, Tatum Neach and Molly Jacobson, each with two goals on the day. Lilah Turley and Keira Doyle-Odenbach also added one apiece. Neach was key in creating offense for the Aztecs, dishing out a career high four assists.
The Aztecs won the draw battle, grabbing 15 draw controls to Cincinnati’s 11, led by Doyle-Odenbach who picked up five.
The Bearcats were led by Paige Counts with six goals. Alyse Keels was the second leading scorer of the game with three goals, while Hailey Joy Simpson, Lexie Wolf, Haley Mario and Sophia Passa each put two in the back of the net and Amanda Sweeney scored once.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton played all 60 minutes in the cage for the Scarlet and Black, recording nine saves off 32 shots faced.
Cincinnati’s Emma Mielke started in the goal and played 39 minutes, grabbing eight saves before being replaced by Bella Kerr, who logged 21 minutes and had two saves.
The Bearcats got on the board first, scoring the first two goals before Maechtel put one away with 3:30 on the clock in the first quarter. Cincinnati came out hot in the start of the second quarter, scoring four straight. The Aztecs responded with five goals of their own from Jacobson, Maechtel, Neach and Turley, bringing the score to 10-6 in Cincinnati’s favor at halftime. After a three-goal scoring run at the start of the second half, Doyle-Odenbach and Neach added two more, but the Bearcats scored four straight to close out the game, giving Cincinnati an 18-8 victory.
Next up, the Aztecs wrap up their season with a final non-conference matchup against Xavier on Sunday at 9 a.m.
