The Aztecs enter Sunday’s match with a 4-2 conference record and 10-11 overall. A win over the Lobos would secure a second place finish in the Mountain West, which would be the team’s highest finish in the conference since the 2019 campaign.

The Lobos are 8-14 on the season and 2-4 in the league, coming off a 4-2 win over Air Force on Friday.

This will be the 48th matchup between the two programs. San Diego State narrowly leads 25-22 in the all-time series, but New Mexico took the last meeting 4-0 in 2025.

Prior to first serve, Head Coach Gene Carswell will honor the team’s two seniors, Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Lars Johann.

A San Diego native, Gonzalez Fitzmaurice has spent four seasons on The Mesa, amassing 52 singles victories and 51 doubles wins, in addition to one yearly and three weekly conference awards.

In his single season as an Aztec, Johann has been a key factor in this year’s lineup, playing mostly on the fifth and sixth courts. The transfer out of Nebraska tallied a 6-5 dual record and 7-10 overall.

Following Sunday’s match, the Aztecs will head to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Championships, taking place April 22-24. The bracket will be announced Sunday evening.
