San Diego State Track and Field’s distance team competed in the 800m, 5,000m and 3,000m steeplechase during their first day of the Bryan Clay Invitational.

SAN DIEGO– The Aztec’s distance team saw action at the famous Bryan Clay Invitational with the first day including three events. The remaining portion of the team will race Saturday, April 18 with eight runners slated to compete in the 1,500-meter run.

Samantha Wood was the first Aztec to race, competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Wood, who ran the third fastest steeplechase in SDSU history earlier this season, finished with a final time of 10:56.37. Following Wood’s performance in the steeplechase, the freshman duo of Emilia Greenway and Alexis Wolfinger raced in the 5,000-meter run. It was Greenway’s third 5,000-meter race of the season and the second time she posted a final time of 17:40.00 or faster, running 17:40.07.

The final race of the day for San Diego State was the 800-meter. Ginger Oberg claimed second place in her heat while running a new personal best of 2:10.74. Senior Tatum Zinkin secured fourth place in her heat behind a finishing time of 2:12.15.

San Diego State’s distance team will return for the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, April 18. Eight Aztecs will be racing in the 1,500-meter run led by Samantha Wood and Sara Jones, both of whom are currently in the SDSU record book for top 10 fastest 1,500m times in program history. The first heat will begin at 5:00 p.m. PST
