SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse hosted seventh-ranked Florida at Aztec Field for a Saturday morning matchup. Six Aztecs found scoring opportunities, but it wasn’t enough to push past the Gators, who won 18-6.
San Diego State falls to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the Big 12. Florida improves to 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in the conference.
The offensive performance was a combined effort from six different players. Lilah Turley, Tatum Neach, Tate Stokesberry, Keira Doyle-Odenbach, Mia Maechtel and Molly Jacobson each scored one goal.
Turley, a freshman midfielder had a standout game, causing a career high four turnovers and grabbing three draw controls and one ground ball, in addition to her goal.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton played all 60 minutes in the cage for the Scarlet and Black, recording eight saves off 32 shots faced.
Kaitlyn Davies was the leading scorer for the Gators, putting away four. Clark Hamilton was also a key factor for the Florida offense with three goals and two assists.
“We knew this was going to be a battle,” said Head Coach Kylee White. “The mindset was to fight for what we want and step on the field believing we belong there. It was the mentality that was going to be what kept us in the game. I think that mentality didn’t show up until we tested the waters a little bit and saw how physical the other team was instead of showing up at the first whistle. I’m proud that they were able to make it closer in the second half, but you can’t wait for 30 minutes to go by against a team like Florida.”
The Aztecs will host their final home game next Saturday, taking on Arizona State at 1 p.m. following a senior day celebration. They will then close out the regular season with road contests against Cincinnati and Xavier.
